Creating a black and white image in Photoshop

Background info

I wanted to do something in Photoshop that was different than anything else I have done for this class. I have never really played around with making images black and white before. I like all the colors! I was able to take some prom pictures for a group and I wanted to give them something fun to remember their night. So I created this graphic.

Photoshop skills used

o   Opened an image I took with my phone in Photoshop

o   Used adjustment layers to sharpen the photo

o   I also used Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Black & White to turn the photo black and white

o   I adjusted the levels in a new layer to get the black and white to where I wanted for the photo

o   I used the text tool to add contrasting text to the photo

o   I saved the photo to use for my exhibit and assignment and also to share with the prom group I took pictures of

Design considerations

o   I wanted to create something completely different than I usually do.

o   I wanted to create a monochromatic graphic.

o   I wanted to use black and white for this design.

o   I used contrasting texts, one script text and one sans serif text.

o   I wanted to use a crazy angled photo that didn’t really follow any rules, I just wanted to try it and see what happened.
