Replacing the background of an image in Photoshop
Background Info
I decided to use the Photoshop skills I learned this week to replace the background of a picture I took that I love. I’ve never replaced a background or image in Photoshop before this week so I thought I would try it on a picture that I took recently. I loved the subject; it was very unique. But the sky didn’t look great, so I replaced it.
Photoshop Skills Used
§ I opened a picture I took in Photoshop.
§ I added a color pop action I had previously purchased to the photo.
§ I used the quick selection tool to select my subject.
§ I went to the edit menu and selected the sky replacement tool.
§ I chose a sky from several sky options in Photoshop that I felt complimented the bold colors of the rocks and clicked ok.
§ I saved the image to use for my assignment and my design portfolio in my website.
Design Considerations
§ I wanted to learn some new tools and tricks in Photoshop to enhance my photography and design skills, so I learned many different ways to replace a subject in a photo and also ways to replace the background or sky in a photo.
§ I chose this photo of the Seven Magic Mountains art exhibit near Las Vegas because of its bold colors against a plain desert background.
§ I wanted to keep the bold rocks but replace the sky to make it more interesting and beautiful. I took the picture in the middle of the day so I thought it would be fun to replace the sky with a gorgeous pink sunset.
§ I also decided to keep the people in the photo to show their proximity to the huge rocks to make a statement.
§ I chose sunset colors of bright pink and blue to compliment the bright colors of the rocks.
§ I wanted this photo to look very bold with bright, contrasting colors.
§ I thought the rocks in a line created great repetition for this design.
