Creating and enhancing bokeh in Photoshop
Background Info
I wanted to do something totally different for my last exhibit for this class. I wanted to do something with bokeh, which is the out of focus light in a photo. I have tried to create bokeh a long time ago, but didn’t do a great job. I had no idea you could create it and enhance it in Photoshop! I watched the video for this week and also found a couple other videos to help me. I decided to go out at night to take some pictures. I found a video on making your own heart shaped bokeh filter for your camera lens out of construction paper and tape. So I did it and I love how it turned out! I opened a photo in Photoshop and enhanced the bokeh.
Photoshop Skills Used
o Opened a photo in Photoshop, I had already created bokeh with my camera lens, I wanted to enhance it from the video this week, and other videos I have found
o Went to Filter > Blur Gallery and used both Field Blur and Tilt Shift tools to enhance the bokeh
o Used a color pop action I had purchased to enhance the colors more
o Saved the design for my exhibit assignment and for my photography portfolio
Design Considerations
o I went to take photos for this exhibit at night so I wanted a dark background with bright lights
o I used contrast with the lights using lots of different bright colors from the city, the color scheme was also chosen for me with the city lights
o I used repetition with the heart shaped filter I used to create the bokeh
o The city lights were aligned nicely in the photo already so that created some great alignment
